Ingleton falls money tree by ShaunW (shandys_preston) on Flickr.Apparently, in some wooded areas of the UK, the tradition of pounding a coin or two into tree stumps to wish someone well has been around since the 1700’s. Rumor has if someone were to pluck a coin from one of these stumps, they would immediately fall ill or into a string of bad luck. The process of pounding the coins into these stumps must have been fairly arduous, and it seems as though many of them were found fairly deep in the woods.
